Coaching Tip

When do you go hunting for the clever answer—books, experts, one more hack—when deep down, you already know the truth?
The real problem isn’t that you don’t have the answer.
It’s that the answer you do have refuses to be as neat, tidy, or convenient as you wish it were. (This is another bite size piece of the upcoming CWB book. I hope you all enjoy!)

For those who don’t love reading—but don’t mind being read to…
In my spare moments (aka rabbit holes), I’ve been reading and reworking pieces from the soon-to-be-released Committed Ways of Being book.
Here’s my very first bedtime story—just for you.
Snuggle in. No footie pajamas required. https://open.substack.com/pub/backwardslogic/p/the-collapse-of-logic-01d?r=2kw5o6&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true
Sure, it’s great advice if someone’s about to hijack a plane…But in coaching? That reflex might just hijack the session.
Just because you see something doesn’t mean it’s time to say something.
The more urgent your truth feels to share, the more vital it is to trust theirs.
Truth travels best when it walks—not when it’s hurled like a helpful grenade.
What feels urgent to say—and what’s driving the urgency?
We put together this video to break down the core elements of narrative—because let’s be real, when people struggle to create change, it’s rarely about skill or capability. More often, it’s about identity, values, and beliefs getting in the way.
So, take a few minutes, give it a watch, and let us know what you think! We’d love to hear your insights.
Nea Demonstrates MCC-Level Coaching in Goal Setting
Watch as Nea skillfully establishes a goal with Jennie, embodying the ICF Core Competencies at an MCC level. She masterfully ensures clarity moment by moment, staying attuned to what is truly needed in the conversation.
Using the Letter to Self Tool, Nea helps Jennie externalize her future story, uncovering what is compelling enough to act on and what is ready to be released. Only the beginning of the tool is shared here.
When the CWB in PRESENCE and the GOAL in DISCOVERY are clear, TRANSFORMATION becomes more meaningful and precise.
PRESENCE = Preparing oneself for the coaching session with intention.
CWB (Clarify WHO to Be) → Focuses on HOW the client wants to show up, think, see, feel, act which all feeds into—clarifying the "WHO" they are striving to be.
DISCOVERY = Uncovering the client’s story by:
Locating where they are in the plot of their story
Identifying their preferred story (where they want to be)

I like how clearly the video explains how the tools we use in the Discovery Session help our clients begin to engage with their Story in a more conscious way. I think this is a good reminder about WHAT we are doing when we are introducing these tools - and how they support our clients in gaining a new awareness/perspective with which to see themselves and their world.
