What Are You Really Reaching For?

Popeye the Sailor Man
Popeye the Sailor Man

When I was a kid, Popeye wasn’t just a cartoon—he was the cartoon.Gravel voice. Gritty forearms. Always showing up when it mattered.

And when things got tough? He didn’t wait for perfect conditions. He popped a can of spinach and got to work.

But then… there was Wimpy. The king of “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.” He never had what he needed—but always believed Future Him would. Until Tuesday showed up, and the bill still wasn’t paid.

And that got me wondering…

What happens when we live like Wimpy—borrowing from a future self we haven’t even met?

What does it cost us when we wait to be ready, certain, or unafraid?

How often do we hand over decisions to a version of ourselves who might be just as unsure… but more tired?

What part of you is ready now, even if it doesn’t feel like it?

Where do you already have the strength you've been waiting to "find"?

And what if your spinach isn’t courage, but commitment—the quiet kind that shows up even when the story feels messy?

Because maybe it’s not about waiting for power. Maybe it’s about recognizing it.
