You May Qualify for Dislocated Worker Services

Minnesota's Dislocated Worker programs help eligible professionals who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own prepare for and pursue their next employment opportunity. Services can include career planning, job-search support, and funding for approved education or training.
 

It may be worth exploring if:

• You've recently been laid off through no fault of your own

• You've been notified that your position will be eliminated

• You're eligible to apply for Minnesota Unemployment Insurance

• Education, training, or a professional credential could support your return to work or next career direction

You don't have to determine your own eligibility. A Dislocated Worker service provider will review your circumstances and determine whether you qualify and what services may be available.
 

Receiving Severance? Don't Assume You Have to Wait.

Receiving a severance package—or having a period of time before you begin receiving unemployment payments—doesn't necessarily mean you have to wait to explore training support.
 

If you've been laid off or notified of an upcoming layoff, begin the process now.
 

Your Dislocated Worker provider can help you understand what you need to do based on your employment situation, unemployment eligibility, and the program through which you're applying.

How the Process Works

1. Connect With a Dislocated Worker Provider

Contact a provider serving your area and begin the eligibility process. Minnesota has multiple organizations delivering Dislocated Worker services, so Learning Journeys does not determine which provider you work with.
 

2. Meet With Your Counselor

Your counselor will help you explore your employment goals, training needs, eligibility, and available resources.
 

3. Explore Learning Journeys as a Training Option

If professional coaching education fits your career or reemployment plan, we'll help you understand the Learning Journeys programs available and provide the program information you need to discuss your options with your counselor.
 

4. Your Provider Determines Funding

Your provider determines whether training is approved and what amount of funding may be available. Funding can vary by provider, program, individual circumstances, and available resources.

Learning Journeys cannot guarantee funding or determine the amount you will receive.
 

5. Once Approved, We'll Help You Get Started

We'll provide the documentation needed for enrollment and work with you and your counselor as appropriate to help make the process as straightforward as possible.

What Could Coaching Education Make Possible Next?

Professional coaching education doesn't necessarily mean leaving your previous career behind to become a full-time coach.
 

People use coaching education to:

  Our comprehensive ICF Level 2 coach education program for people developing professional coaching capability and pursuing the educational pathway toward a PCC credential.

Who Decides Whether I Receive Funding?

Your Dislocated Worker provider does. Learning Journeys doesn't.

Minnesota's Dislocated Worker system includes state and federally funded services delivered through CareerForce and participating service providers. Your provider determines eligibility, works with you on your employment plan, and determines whether training and associated costs can be approved.

Learning Journeys is the training provider.

We can:

• Explain our programs and education pathways

• Help you identify which program may align with your professional direction

• Provide program and enrollment documentation

• Communicate with your counselor when appropriate

We cannot determine:

• Whether you qualify for Dislocated Worker services

• Whether a particular program will be funded for you

• How much funding you'll receive

• Which expenses your provider will approve

Do I Have to Live in the Twin Cities?

Start with the provider that serves you.

Learning Journeys is based in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area, and many of the people who come to us through Dislocated Worker funding live in the Twin Cities region.
 

Minnesota has Dislocated Worker service providers throughout the state, and some special projects may also serve eligible workers affected by particular layoffs or employers. Your provider can determine what services and training funding are available based on your circumstances.
 

Because Learning Journeys education is offered live virtually, your physical location does not necessarily determine whether you can participate in our training.
