Here's to Bad Dance Parties and Good Friends

Remember that moment when I suggested we all dance?
What I conjured up—when it was still safe and undefeated inside my brain—was, without question, a mind-blowing, unforgettable experience.
Fueled by the moment, my complete confidence in Tirzah’s ability to make anything happen, and all of you very willing side-kicks, I was certain I could see it clearly: this event didn’t just need a dance party—we could absolutely pull off a next-level one.
And then… it escaped my brain.
Almost immediately, I realized this idea—once released into the wild— was questionable at best.
Awkward. Dubious.
A concept that should have stayed theoretical.
Yet somehow, it moved forward anyway.
Not because anyone was dying to do it.But because of who was in the room.
No one said, “Absolutely not.”
No one staged a rescue.

Everyone just silently agreed, "Well… here we go."
The dancing was bad.
The attempts to make it “worth it” were worse.
And I’m fairly certain at least half the group was internally negotiating how long polite participation should last.
And yet—those moments are now some of my fondest memories.
Not because it was good.
But because you stayed.
You chose the moment over comfort.
The experience over cool.
The group over dignity.
My bad idea over your better judgment.

So—thank you.
For getting up.
For doing the thing.
For saying yes before you were sure it would be worth it.
So, now, here’s the question:
Will you stay next time the moment asks you to—when it’s awkward, unpolished, or a little ridiculous—for the sake of the moment, the people, or the story in the making?
Because even as the architect of the awkward, I’d do it again.
Hell yeah. Every time!!!
Discomfort fades.
Laughter compounds.
And some of the best stories only exist because no one pulled the plug.
